Sugar Prices

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I don't have a lot to say - I am still rather numb.</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I heard a news anchor on CNN explaining a bit of push back against the lowering of sugar prices.  Some one or some group, like a sugar producer, is fighting this effort (I guess there is an effort, but its news to me).  </span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The CNN anchor complained about this obstacle causing our candy to not be as cheap as it could be.</span></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Really - Really.  I just don't have the words to express how much of an IDIOT I think that person was.</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">There is no question that cheap, processed foods, high in fat and sugar are behind the drastic increase in calories in our diets - leading to a 66% adult overweight/obesity prevalence. </span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Sugar and corn are VERY cheap - it is fruits and vegetables that cost the most money.  What the heck was that woman smoking????</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Add to that, this linked <a href="http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2012/02/29/sugar-makes-up-16-of-kids-daily-diet/" target="_blank">article</a> that CNN posted just two months ago.  They are either concerned or not.</span></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- sigh - </span></span>

The additive effect of SUGAR - or SSBs

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I only have four or five items set aside for tomorrow's Odds and Ends post, so I checked out some trusted websites in search of something easy to post tonight (to conserve my brain).</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I went to the <a href="http://www.yaleruddcenter.org/" target="_blank">RUDD Center for Food Policy and Obesity   </a>where I emailed someone to find out what they heck is going on with the FDA final rule on menu and vending labeling, and then I ventured over to a website in LA County, CA.  </span></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The LA cite has a sugar sweetened beverage calculator.   Here you enter the number of drinks of each type that you consume and it calculates several different measures.  For instance, the packets and pounds of sugar you consume in a week, month and year and how much you might be spending on these beverages.  </span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I do not drink SSBs (I even make my sports drink with a sugar substitute)- so I made believe I was someone else.  Startling results!</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">BTW - I do eat sugary snacks (real sugar) but I only have about one a day.</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Oh I almost forgot - here is the website and <a href="http://www.choosehealthla.com/multimedia/sugar-calculator/" target="_blank">calculator</a> where LA County suggests that you ChooseHealth.  AMEN. </span></span>
